Aloha,
welcome to the newly rebuilt website of AMV Air Conditioning Inc. After
being the first a/c contractor on the island of Oahu to have a website
built back in 1997, then to go through many challenges in having the
person you hired to keep it maintained properly, and then ultimately
having to have it rebuilt by some other entity (Lava Works, a division
of Lava Net), man I am just glad this project is finally completed.
You are probably one of many people sitting in the office, living room
or home office in front of a computer searching for an air conditioning
contractor to come over to your existing home, a new home that was just
recently built and needs an air conditioning system, or in a home that
you just recently moved into hoping
that contractor can make your home more livable. If this is you, just
remember your are not alone. Regardless of the situation you are in,
you
came here because you wanted to gather some information. On those muggy
days and nights your family has spent enough time at the
shopping malls to give your home a chance to cool off before
you open that entry door. To make things worse, you just watched or
overheard the weather forecast on the news and they just mentioned the
buzz word," El Niño, La Niña or Kona winds",
which all simply means really hot and muggy weather coming soon to a
home near you. Those of who are here because you are building or
designing a new home, congratulations!
Careful planning and designing an air conditioning system into a new
home is what a majority of the homeowners in Hawaii overlook until it
is too late. By navigating through this website we sincerely hope that
your will be able to gather enough information so when you decide to
ask some of the local a/c contractors to submit a quote to you, you
will already have some idea how you would want your home to be air
conditioned.
Bear in mind that with any type of construction project large or small
last minute decisions will always drive up the construction cost just
to hide any ductwork or mechanical equipment like the air handling
unit. Our advice to you is when the preliminary drawing for your home
is handed over to you by your architect, if you have some thoughts of
possibly including split or central air conditioning into your project,
now is the best
time for us to do some preplanning with you and your architect. At no
charge to you, AMV Air Conditioning Inc will review your preliminary
drawings, put some ideas and options together and explain to you
through a professionally detailed written proposal to help create a
number to add to your budget for the project. Once our preliminary
proposal is signed and accepted by you, we will go forward and start
the ground work to provide a mechanical layout that you and your
architect can review that will contain all the pertinent information on
the equipment being specified for your project, cooling capacity,
electrical requirements, CFM requirement for each room, duct layout,
dimensions, etc.
Purchasing a properly designed air conditioning system is considered to
be a large investment for many of you. So before you jump into making
this large investment, take your time and do your homework. In my
opinion, the three largest investments that you may make in your
lifetime is (1) purchasing a home, (2) purchasing a car and for some
people (3) purchasing air conditioning for their home.
The five things you may want to take into consideration prior to making
your purchase are:
- Get three competitive
quotes from
licensed air conditioning contractors that will be able to meet your
design needs. When possible ask for references, it is not unusual in
Hawaii to find that some air conditioning contractors on this island
will design and install a system that others can't or won't do or they
may end up doing it for you but is actually subcontracting a portion of
the work or the entire project. Be very careful when third parties are
involved in the installation of your system. It makes it very difficult
to settle any type of disagreement you may have regarding your project.
- To prevent your self
from being sued from
workers injuries who's employer is not fully insured or to prevent
yourself from being taken advantage of make sure you check that the
contractor is licensed, insured and check their business history by
calling the following numbers:
- Hawaii
Contractors License Board at
586-3000
- Hawaii
Better Business Bureau at
536-6956
- Review your budget for
air conditioning
and make sure that your budget will allow you to make a choice that you
will be able to live with for at least the next 10 to 15 years or even
more (which happens to be the life expectancy of a properly maintained
air conditioning system).
To help
leverage our customer's
buying power, AMV Air Conditioning offers (6) different payment options
from which you can choose from. These payment options will be listed in
the written proposal submitted for your project:
- Cash
- Check
(personal, cashiers or business
checks accepted)
- Credit
Card (all major credit cards
accepted)
- 90 Day No
Interest Financing (no
finance charges)
- 6-Month
Financing (add 4% finance
charge)
- 12-Month
Financing (add 7% finance
charge)
- Talk it over with your
spouse and ask
each other some simple questions, "Do we want something that will just
make us comfortable or are we also concerned about it's interior and
exterior aesthetic appearance, noise level and cost to operate this
system?" After viewing this website you will see there are many ways to
air condition your home finding the right one will need to be discussed
thoroughly prior to making a final decision.
- Check the Seasonal
Energy Efficiency
Rating (SEER rating) on the system prior to making a purchase. The
higher the energy efficiency rating the less you will pay HECO for your
comfort. We can email you a HECO calculation formula that will allow
you to estimate your electrical cost based on the size of your
equipment, EER rating and hours of operation. In some cases, based on
its efficiency, you will be surprised to find that cooling off your
living room, family room, dining room, kitchen and foyer with a single
ducted central air conditioning will be a more cost effective solution
for your comfort versus installing (2) or (3) wall mounted ductless
split systems. More information is included in the "Estimated
Electrical Usage for a/c unit" section on our website.
